Some Bests and Worsts from Athfest

The best:
Not to sound like a schill (*quickly pushes bag of Athfest money out of view*) but the fact that I saw 10+ bands in 24 hours for $15 is pretty damn sweet.

Surprise best act (and best performance overall): Heavy Mojo. These guys added an extra MC and tons more energy since I saw them at Tasty World a year ago. They got a great crowd response from the oft-jaded Athens crowd and had tremendous energy the whole time.

"Next big thing": Ishues. He's already toured with KRS-One and his underground buzz should be growing, but Athfest revealed another facet of the mult-talented MC's game: he's got a helluva live show. Hip-hop (excluding band-based acts like eLeMeN O P and the Roots) has a tough time translating to the live stage, but Ish not only came with flows and commanded the stage, he also was able to involve the crowd through some crafty freestyles.

Biggest Band Getting No Press At All In Flagpole Award: Second Shift...these guys came a very, very close second to Heavy Mojo in the "most energy" category, and were really, really, really impressive at Tasty World friday night. Sadly though, it seems in a town full of becardiganed emo kids moping like mini-Obersts, black-footed hippies and Malkmus-loving indie kids and band that looks, sounds and with the right radio airplay and video exposure someday will be rock stars is doomed to get little mention in the local press.
The songs are tight and catchy - like a mash up of old, pissed-off Guns N' Roses mixed with some of the harsher, experimental sounds of recent Incubus - in other words, like what many of us had hoped Velvet Revolver would have sounded like.

Best Stage Show: can anyone truly take this one away from Troublegum? Not only do they have the sexiest keyboardist in rock (well, excluding Keith Emerson, who's just dreamy) guitarist/bassist/singer Tim Conley wasn't afraid of playing in what looked like basketball shorts from the John Stockton/late seventies school. Plus, backing up their cocktail of Zappa meets Trey Parker tunes they had not only a "Suck meter" (which was reading low in this man's opinion) but also a giant, glowing Japanese toy (wearing tighty whities...who said tighties belong to is a question best left unasked.)

The bad: the Flagpole music awards. Where were the drunken speeches? Hell, where were the speeches? Too many winners simply let a "thanks" and a thumbs up suffice. I miss the crazy antics of two years ago when Drunk and Furious claimed two awards, Je Suis France proved that funny and obnoxious presenters are way more entertaining and the Muppet Cover Band threw confetti on the crowd.

These things should be fun, not a Grammys with barefoot hippies in the crowd.

"BREAKING NEWS"
===============

-Energy and Asset Technology, Inc. (EGTY) owns a global license to market
the genetically enhanced Global Cedar growth trees, with plans to
REVOLUTIONIZE the forest-timber industry.

These newly enhanced Globa| Cedar trees require only 9-12 years of growth before they can
be harvested for lumber, whereas worldwide growth time for lumber is 30-50 years.

Other than growing at an astonishing rate, the Global Cedar has a number of other benefits.
Its natural elements make it resistant to termites, and the lack of oils and sap found in the wood
make it resistant to forest fire, ensuring higher returns on investments.
T
he wood is very lightweight and strong, lighter than Poplar and over twice
as strong as Balsa, which makes it great for construction. It also has
the unique ability to regrow itself from the stump, minimizing the land and
time to replant and develop new root systems.

Based on current resources and agreements, EGTY projects revenues of $140 Million
with an approximate profit margin of 40% for each 9-year cycle. With anticipated
growth, EGTY is expected to challenge Deltic Timber Corp. during its initial 9-year cycle.

Deltic Timber Corp. currently trades at over $38.00 a share with about $153 Million in revenues.
As the reputation and demand for the Global Cedar tree continues to grow around the world
EGTY believes additional multi-million dollar agreements will be forthcoming. The Global Cedar nursery has produced
about 100,000 infant plants and is developing a production growth target of 250,000 infant plants per month.

Energy and Asset Technology is currently in negotiations with land and business owners in New Zealand,
Greece and Malaysia regarding the purchase of their popular and profitable fast growing infant tree plants.
Inquiries from the governments of Brazil and Ecuador are also being evaluated.

Conclusion:

The examples above show the Awesome, Earning Potential of little
