Sunday Grab Bag Musings Buffett

A few words for the 'net...

There's been a lot of speculation among those in the Fortune 500 class about NewsCorp's recent big money purchase of MySpace (the leading "social networking" site, see also Facebook and Friendster and TagWorld etc.).

Is it big money wasted on a fad? For the site...maybe. Anything dominated (this may prove to be an untrue stereotype but it seems true to me) by whiny emo kids and hundreds of celebrity impersonators does seemingly trend to a short self life. But, the basic idea behind MySpace is hopefully not going anywhere. And I figure that's a good thing.

For years the internet was a place where nerds gathered to talk, and where you went for (sometimes) free porno. If you met people online, you were likely either a pornographer or a dork. The rise of sites like MySpace has challenged the Star Trek convention stigma of the net. Sure, in many ways possibly fake pictures and typed words transmitted through the ether isn't the same "connected" as sitting down face to face in a coffee shop...but neither is a phone.
And never have I gotten compliments from random strangers by phone.

Is that last bit a plus? Sure...but remember I'm both an only child and a Leo. Which, if you buy into such esoterica means if (when) I become a published author there won't be any need for my agent to twist my arm to do a book tour. It also means I won't go pulling a Kurt Cobain if Of Mirth and Matter blows up.

The trade off of course, is any prospective date can now type "Will Mosher" into Google and get all sorts of info. Some of it about me, and some even true.

Not that I'd twist this with a diseninformation campaign or anything...

ACTUAL QUOTES FROM PEOPLE ABOUT WILL MOSHER:

"He's one of the funniest guys I've ever met"

"He likes to cuddle"

"He's an amazing kisser"

"9 times...in one night, he didn't ask for anything back...and said he could do better..."

The net also allowed me to find out the new single from TOOL's new album comes out this week. I've heard good things.

And it even allows for random, but date-related song lyrics:

"A ghost of a mist was on the field
The grey and the green together
The noise of a distant farm machine
Out of the first light came

A tattered necklace of hedge end trees
On the southern side of the hill
Betrays where the border runs between
Where Mary Dunoon's boy fell

Easter here again, a time for the blind to see
Easter, surely now can all of your hearts be free

Out of the port of Liverpool
Bound for the North of Ireland
The wash of the spray and horsetail waves
The roll of the sea below

And Easter here again, a time for the blind to see
Easter, surely now can all of your hearts be free

What will you do?
Make a stone of your heart?
Will you set things right?
When you tear them apart?
Will you sleep at night?
With the plough and the stars alight?

What will you do?
With the wire and the gun?
That'll set things right
When it's said and done?
Will you sleep at night?
Is there so much love to hide?

Forgive, Forget
Sing 'Never again.'"

I *love* my blog, I've had it longer than any relationship, but I *hate* the fact that any potential suitor can Google me and read about the last 3 years of my life. He'll know stories I have long forgotten. I actually went through it last month and saved some posts as drafts so they won't be on my site, but I still have them.
