Nothing Like Deadlines...
Ah, there’s nothing like a deadline to lit the proverbial fire under the proverbial ass (and why did I phrase it this way? Because how often do you see the phrase “proverbial ass”?)
As the above gif hints, I signed up for the National Novel Writing Month event. And as the name implies, it’s all about writing a novel…in a month.
From midnight on November 1, 2006 until a little before midnight on November 30th, I’ve got to write at least 50,000 words—ideally mostly coherent and related-to-each-other-plot-and-character-wise words.
There are some problems, naturally.
For starters, there’s the limits on my “free time” to write imposed by things as diverse as a full-time Mon.-Fri. job, and playing in a rock band.
On top of that…I don’t drink coffee.
And finally, while I have no problem starting to write a novel, it’s the whole finishing that seems difficult. But the hope is the deadline will get that hurdle out of the way. And in anticipation of the over-1,000-words-per-day grind I’ll be undertaking in less than a month, and to make up for the likely lack of blog postings during that time, I’m going to attempt daily posts (excluding weekends) from now until Halloween approaches.
Feel free to threaten and make vague threats and pronouncements if I don’t.

No Wilbur and no "House?"
What the hell am I supposed to do with myself?
